What I Learned on LinkedIn

Today I had my first Multimedia Channels Class at Biola University where I am majoring in Public Relations. In this class, we were encouraged to create a LinkedIn profile and share a few things we learned while doing so. The first thing I liked about creating a profile on LinkedIn was how easy it was to manage. I felt I could set up my account in a professional way, while still giving it a personal feel. The second thing I learned about LinkedIn through this assignment was how to join a group. I was fascinated by how quickly I could find the Biola PR group, put in a request to join the group, and see members who made up the group. This led directly to the third thing I learned- making connections. As a Freshman, I haven't met many PR majors so was worried it would be hard to make connections through LinkedIn, however, it was actually the complete opposite. After joining the group, a "people you may know" tab popped up and it consisted of many accounts where I could visibly see they are PR students here at Biola. The fourth thing I liked about this assignment was finding the "Analytics" section of my profile. I was excited to see this was a feature so I can measure growth on my account, view interactions, and gauge where people are at when they see my account. Lastly, I really loved the LinkedIn setup and how easy it is to navigate. I was impressed with all the different highlights you can add to your profile; from education, to skillset, to previous work experience, and so much more!
